I'll be leaving soon to teach English to a bunch of private school kids in China for the school year. I'm trying to figure out what books to bring with me. I know I can get some shipped in, but I want to take a few ones I haven't read that will last me a while. I'll be bringing my excellent Harvill book of 20c english poetry and a looong list of friends' addresses to write to, but beyond that, I'm not sure. Maybe The Brothers Karamazov (I loved Crime and Punishment); maybe my Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy anthology because it reminds me of home; maybe I'll finally start the battle with Ullysses...

So, the question is, what books would be worth toting halfway across the globe?

if i had an entire school year in china, i'd forget about bringing english books, and i'd read in mandarin. you won't get many immersion opportunities like that again?
