Motorola FreeCharge now lets you talk on your cell phone without the need for nasty envrionmentally unfriendly batteries. This is cool, though I still think the cellphone is the tool of the devil.

Why is a cellphone the work of the devil? I'm serious - I just axed my land line and switched to a cell phone.

Sure, sure, there are lot's of studies that say they're safe, but ...I don't believe them for a second.

quote:
Cell phone manufacturers have acknowledged for the first time that their products pose a health risk to users, according to a story in London's Independent. Lawyers claim that the admission will pave the way for civil suits against manufacturers, for conditions ranging from tumors, damage to the immune system, and memory loss.

Cell phones are safe - according to the companies that make them. Not everyone believes that.

Depending on how close your cell phone antenna is to your head, you could be absorbing as much as 60 percent of the microwave radiation generated by your phone. Some of that radiation will seep as far as two to four centimetres into your brain.

The issue is a growing concern as cell phone use around the world explodes. In Canada, approximately nine million people use cell phones. That total grows by more than 5,000 people a day.

This issue of cell phone safety has been the subject of several studies. All have come to the same conclusion: there is no scientific proof that cell phone use leads to brain tumours. Those studies tend to come with further conclusions like the issue needs more study.

Last May, a British report recommended that even though there is no proof that exposure to microwave radiation from cell phones is a health risk, cell phone use by children should be limited.

The report, commissioned by the British government, suggested there may be "subtle effects" on brain function.
