MTV Is Wary of Videos on War
quote:

Taking further cautionary measures, the memo goes on to advise against showing videos in which lyrics, song titles or even band names allude to war, bombs or other "sensitive words." It mentions the songs "B.O.B (Bombs Over Baghdad)" by Outkast; "You, Me and World War Three" by Gavin Friday; and anything by the B-52's.

"I guess MTV doesn't have a research department, because from Day 1 we've said in interviews that our name is a slang term for the bouffant hairdo Kate and Cindy used to wear nothing to do with bombers, " said Fred Schneider of the B-52's, referring to fellow band members.

I remember some similar stupidity just after 9/11.

No big propaganda conspiracy here, however-- other than the station that is devoted to broadcasting by and for the atmospherically skulled.

That second quoted paragraph strikes me as funny. To wit:

to french - to cut (green beans) in thin lengthwise strips before cooking

Anyway, people might also want to be aware of Clear Channel Communications:

quote:
Some have been financed by radio stations owned by his employer, Clear Channel Communications, the nation's largest owner of radio stations, in an arrangement that has been criticized by those who believe media companies should not engage in political advocacy.

I hear from a friend at a university in Tenn. (mind you this is second hand hearsay) that the rallies organized by ClearChannel are being organized as "Patriotism" or "Support the Troops" rallies, then being reported as "Pro-War" rallies - if correct, something important to note.

Funny, I've heard "Rock the Casbah" by the Clash several times on radio stations here, so I guess they aren't applying that policy.

FBI, I believe that those are just thinly veiled code words for the real agenda: supprting the war.
In any case, these rallies have a scent of Facism, most blatantly the part about the state being merged with corporate power.
