CNN reports that Bob Hope died today at 100. A significant enough death to warrant its ownthread.

Hope's jingoism aside, I thought George Burns was MUCH funnier as old duffers go. But some of his one-liners are still funny (others are groan-worthy)... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3041247.stm

Sadly, this is the end of the line for the great comedic tradition stretching back to vaudeville. Hope's the last one to move from vaudeville to radio to movies to tv. No less an auteur than Woody Allen has said that Hope's, underrated in my view, film career was one of his main inspirations.

Anyone willing to bet the over/under on how many headlines will say, "thanks for the memories"?

There are a few comedians left over from Burlesque though (which was related to Vaudeville and lasted a little longer). Wasn't Jerry Lewis a burlesque comedian at some point or did he start out in night clubs?

I think Krusty the Clown started out in burlesque
