My contribution: Coco Mbassi totally kicks ass!

You may be thinking "well her website certainly wouldn't indicate it", so shame on you! Repent! Order her CD! Now.

Any new, or not-so-mainstreme artists out there you're just tickled you've found? Spill!

Cesaria Evora, of Cape Verde. I can't believe it took me as long as it did to finally hear some of her stuff. She has like a kajillion albums.

Stereo Total. They've been around for a number of years but I've just been listening to them for the past couple weeks. They're playing in Montreal on Thursday(tonight) and they played in Toronto on Wednesday.

I really, really, really love The Brilliant Green. They're Japanese and they're very big and mainstream in Japan, but not here.

Lvoe Psychedelico and Puffy (called Puffy Ami Yumi here because Puff Daddy threatened to sue ) are good too, and have actually toured in North America - Puffy actually played at Lee's Palace recently, I think.

I love Judy and Mary! Cool! Haven't really got into Chara - her vocal delivery takes some getting used to, I think.

Have you ever seen any of their videos? You can download them on WinMX...Yuki is so CUTE! I especially love the one that starts out with the weird-ass American announcer...uh, you kinda have to see it. Oh, and after J&M broke up, Yuki did a song called "The End of Shite," and the video involves, er, masturbation...and cartoon dwarves. It's fucked up.

(Speaking of Japanese music videos, you have to try to find Tommy february6's "Everyday At The Bus Stop" or "Bloomin'!" - they are hilarious.)
