This comes the day after Chantal Kreviazuk said
she would never work with Avril again, as Avril had used a song written by Chantal and gave no credit to her, and added that she would not sue.

quote:
The Winnipeg songstress has blasted the punky singer for purporting to write her own material and even suggests that Lavigne stole one of her songs for Lavigne's current smash disc, "The Best Damn Thing.''

"Avril doesn't really sit and write songs by herself or anything,'' Kreviazuk tells the American music magazine, "Performing Songwriter.''

"Avril will also cross the ethical line, and no one says anything. That's why I'll never work with her again.'

Avril Lavigne hit with lawsuit over 'Girlfriend'

quote:
The song, by a duo active since the 1970s, released "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" in 1979. It features the poppy chorus: "Hey, hey, you, you, I wanna be your boyfriend,'' lyrics similar to Lavigne's more up-tempo hit, which goes, "Hey, hey, you, you, I don't like your girlfriend.''

If it wasn't for the money, you'd wonder why anyone would want to take credit for that drek.

True. T'was. I remember both tunes when they came out, and the legal hoopla over plagiarism and copyright infringement charges against Harrison.

With all due respect to the Chiffons,

I liked Harrison's tune better...

(although the Chiffons are somewhat more attractive )

I just heard snippets of both Avril's song and the earlier version, and both sound like they're ripping off Get Off My Cloud (the Stones, '67).

Hate to sound like a know-it-all history freak, but actually the tune is from 1965 from the album December's Children.

This is VERY critical information, you know!

Well, to wrap this thread up, I should say that while I think Avril Lavigne is a pretty good musician and attractive woman, something I learned recently about her would likely lead me to side with Chantal in their recent celeb-spat:

Imagine, she supposedly told Ellen degeneres on her show that she's bisexual, yet she votes for a bigoted snot like Stephen Harper. Politics never ceases to amaze!

Almost as bad as Britney's little quip in Farhenheit 911 about supporting Bush unquestionably.

We have a major decision to make. Having stories about such people in the culture section is demeaning. Can't we create a new category for celebrity trash?

I imagine Avril is bisexual in the same sense that she's a musician.

Oh, this thread reminds me. Last week I read in one of those free dailies that Kreviasuk has withdrawn her accusation and has apologized to Lavigne. Apparently she only THOUGHT it was her song that Lavigne stole, because she only looked at the name of the song. But once she heard it, she realized it wasn't her song.

Wow, that was a pretty stupid thing to do. So stupid I can't help wondering if it was one of those PR-manufactured celebrity dust-ups that are designed to sell tabloids.

The Matrix, the songwriting team who helped her out on her first album, have said similar things about Avril. She doesn't really write her songs. She is a pathetic hack. Punk my arse.

And posting a picture of the sainted George Harrison in the same forum as AL is blasphemy!
