So, if you throw a concert, and you know or "ought to know" people coming will use drugs, you could be criminally responsible for possession and use by anyone in attendance under proposed U.S. legislation.

Of course, every last bit of imaging is that this is targetted against raves. What about classic rock concerts core Republican voters enjoy every day, and could just as well be painted with the same brush? Nothin' said about them at all...

C'mon, everyone knows acid, weed and coke are a'okay. At raves, kids do E!

The City of Ottawa is also planning a crackdown on raves. Sexual predators and school absenteeism, you know.

That would especially suck in states where even the smallest drug crimes carry mandatory life sentences.

How 'bout a crackdown on ridiculously large trousers? Soothers? All things fun fur? Were that the case, I might get behind some kind of rave legislation.

However, it seems law makers are still caught up in some kind of '50s, reefer-madness style paranoia when it comes to these things. Nothing terrifies the establishment more than the thought of combining youth, drugs and loud music.

All the PR about drug overdoses and what not aside, I think a major motivation behind such legislation is simply fear and loathing of teenage sexuality -- based partly, of course, in envy thereof.
