If you saw this in 'News' forgive me for spamming, and I apologize, but I wish to put this in the appropriate forums to get the word out!

Urgent! RIAA Kills!

Internet Radio Sentenced To Death May 21, 2002

This is not just an American domestic issue, but when the elephant sneezes, the whole jungle shudders, and these germs are deadly. Still not clear? The RIAA has suffered a decline in sales for more than a decade, and that was even before Napster! Napster has been the lightning rod that woke their complacent synapses to the reality of the 'freedom' of the people, read competition. It is now in the hands of the American Government to arbitrate a "royalty" agreement, between the RIAA, and Internet broadcasters. Read I said Internet! Not American radio! This directly affects Global Independent, Educational, Non-profit and Commercial Internet Radio.

That was all very well as the parties were wihtin reasonable negotiating positions, but when a government panel, CARP, was called on to arbitrate, they made a decision based on limited input, and rushed through a judgement relying on the precedent of a deal between Yahoo and the RIAA which was done before the Dot Com burnout!

Imagine who can afford this formula: 0.14 cents X song X listener! Yahoo thought it could then, but look at them now.

Needless to say, the figures are skewed all out of proportion to the present reality, no one but the Major players can afford to stay in the game! Guess who: Internet radio properties owned by multi-billion-dollar corporations like AOL, Yahoo!, and Microsoft, and so on.

Americans can reach their govrnment representatives, press and anyone who will fight, at the following links, and the Rest Of The World can support it too at the same resource. Here is the link to go to for the details: http://saveinternetradio.org/

Hey, 5strings, a lot of babblers navigate from the "Today's Active Topic" page - and that page lists each thread by the time they were posted rather than by forum. So no matter which forum you post it in, we will be able to see it from the Today's Active Topics page. That way you don't need to worry about reposting it in many different forums.

Just thought I'd let you know.
