In this month's "Playboy Interview", hiphop sensation 50 Cent adds his pseudonym to those of Eminem and Dr. Dre on the list of hip hop artists who can't stand queer men.

I am a queer, and I like 50 Cent. He's incredibly hot to look at, and I appreciate his brutally frank expression of some of the truth about American life. I particularly admire his statement of the American Dream: "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" -- far truer to actual lived reality than the usual pap about "In God We Trust" etc.

So I'm saddened, though not surprised, to read that he shares the antipathy to queer men (he likes Lesbians, nudge, nudge) that seems endemic in the hiphop community.

I'm an older white guy, and I don't really know enough about the hiphop scene to get into a discussion of 50 Cent's comments from that point of view. I guess "tough guys" have always expressed antipathy towards queer men, and 50 Cent is certainly a tough guy. I will only mention that the huge injustice of mass imprisonment of young black men in the US leads to ugly attitudes towards gay guys, who are usually victims, not "tough guys" behind bars.

It's too bad that 50 Cent and others like him don't respect the many gay men who find them sexy, significant, and entertaining, and who, no doubt, buy plenty of their CDs.

This looks like it could have been an interesting discussion.

Bump.

Boo on 50! In Da Club is meant for *everyone*. I would think that someone who has been shot as many times as he has would learn to mind his own business.

Plus, there is random speculation that 50 himself might be gay. Those rumours also swirl around Usher and P.Diddy.

50 Cent is a douchebag. He has no discernable talent and his music all sounds the same (as does the rest of G-Unit's music).

The imagery of 50 Cent is fascinating and I think sexually ambiguous. His style would not be out of place in many gay bars.

He's a kind of inverted ultra macho cyborg. The video for In Da Club shows him being created as a Frankenstein creature. The constant references to his having been shot seem a bit St. Sebastian to me.

Plus he does cut a good figure.

Edited to add: Why are there references to "douchebag" and "bitches" above?
