Have any babblers seen this Brit import yet? I may make Saturday a movie night, and I've heard that this film is worth two hours of my life. Can anyone talk me into or out of it?

I've heard good things about it, but the reason it's caught my attention is because the guy in the movie poster looks EXACTLY like me! He's a dead ringer.

What's good about it is that it doesn't just send up zombies. It's so easy to just go through a list of genre expectations and "subvert" them. "Shaun" is more about the characters--Shaun, an underachiever, and Ed, his even more underachieving friend. And his family. Shaun's battle with the zombies isn't merely about survival--there's a personal journey in there. In other words, the movie's energy isn't dependent on a series of jokes; there's actually a good story pushing it along, and the jokes fit with that agenda. Exactly because of that, I thought the jokes were effective.

Also good is the fact that eventually he's faced with the worst that could possibly happen--the movie doesn't pull its punches. So necessarily there's a tone shift in the last act, where things get darker, and aren't as funny as often, but by that point I cared what happened to the characters, and the humour wasn't the most important thing. It also makes maximum use of its setting, like the Simpsons does--Shaun's daily routine is carefully observed and then paid off hilariously when the attack happens.

There's gore, of course, but it's good gore.

Or an undead ringer, actually.

*bump*

I just wanted to let everyone know that I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It's probably not for everyone, but it is for anyone with a twisted sense of humour. And an impending feeling of doom.

Its an amazing movie and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Bascially its the story of Shaun and his GF AROUND which the zombie holocaust happens. The Zombies dont do anything funny, they jsut act like zombies and are basically just the setting for this love story
