Every player and member of the coaching staff should make a statement for this site on how he or she grew up skating and playing hockey outdoors:
Save Hockey
The use of the past tense in Roch Carrier’s quote on the back of the five dollar bill is ever more poignant these days.

Who else besides me can’t stand watching the automobile and Esso ads during hockey games, getting pissed off at the HUGE disconnect between climate change and enjoyment of the game?

On a lighter note, how would you line up the forwards chosen for the men’s team? (No crying about who wasn’t chosen instead.) Who’s going to switch to left wing? (I know, all these frikken millionaires should.) Here’s what I have:

Gagne – Richards - Heatley (speed!)
Nash – Sakic - Iginla (2 previous line-mates)
Smyth – Lecavalier - St. Louis (2 previous line-mates)
Draper – Thornton - Doan (checking line like at World Cup)
Bertuzzi inserted for St. Louis or Draper in certain situations.

Or

Gagne – Lecavalier - Heatley
Nash – Thornton - Bertuzzi (power line)
Smyth – Sakic - Iginla
St. Louis – Richards - Doan
Draper inserted for defensive situations.

Anyways, it rests most heavily on these shoulders to stand up for the real hockey that is quickly going extinct (along with its sound of the rubber disc thudding wooden boards from far away, the scraping of the ice, the ring of the posts, the dismay of having the neighborhood NHL prospect on the other team, etc., etc.).
