Patrick Roy announced his retirement today. He's, arguably, the best goaltender in hockey history and the source of some of this young Habs fans's happiest moments and one of the unhappiest. He changed the way goalies play (lookit the two Cup finalist's netminders if you doubt it).

Yeah, he was OK I guess.

Looked good on him though, when Canada won the gold in Salt Lake after he had told the team to take a hike.

I think you post better describes Jacques Plante, Black Dog.

But not to take too much away from Patrick Roy, he was an outstanding goaltender, there is no doubt.

I don't think this announcement was all that surprising, I actually thought he was going to retire after last year.

For sure though, Roy is one of the greatest goalies to ever play the game, probably on every serious hockey fan's top 5.

When I think of Roy, beyond the wins, shutouts, etc. I think of three things - and all are called Conn Smythe. I think that says more 'bout his career than any other record/stat.

So now is time for speculation... what will 'rado do? Big trade, free agent... can Aebischer start all season? I'm not so sure.

Ed. 'cause I'm thinking faster than I type, again.
