I am just listening to Andy Barrie via podcast and an interesting piece on diversifying libraries.

quote:
Census results released this week revealed that almost half of the people living in the GTA were born outside of the country. Metro Morning host Andy Barrie spoke with the CEO of Brampton Libraries to find out how they’ve changed the way they do business to meet the needs of their changing community.

In a user survey, the Brampton library found that library users speak 72 different languages in their homes. This can be compared to the 17 different languages that can be found in book form at the Brampton library. I can imagine that this is common across municipalities, and I’m wondering what further libraries can do to ensure accessibility to more people in the Toronto community and across the country.
