I started seeing these things (coloured plastic bracletes) everywhere after Lance Armstrong came out with his. I think they're ridicules. I've even seen green ones for the environment (wtf?).

What's with this new trend of wearing your heart around your wrist?

The trend's just about over, I think. It lasted about a year. Started with cancer and became just about anything else, sort of like the wearing of different colour ribbons for different things (AIDS awareness, men against violence, supporting troops and other such varied colour codes).

Unlike the ribbons these were much more pop. They also included variations such as "Love" and "Music".

I think this trend died with the introduction of Rick Bands. Good enough cause for the proceeds, but still...

Even worse, I was at a large discount/grocery store here yesterday and noted they sell multi-packs of different-colored bands just as fashion accessory, without any charitable or awareness component.

Of course, there are always
nihilist wrist bands or those celebrating the seven deadly sins

I actually had one of those bracelets with the name of the union I work for on it...however, one of my cats had his awareness raised by it, so now it's off under the couch or wherever he bats such things to.

What bugs me is that no-one seems to have any original ideas in the fundraising field. It seems to be 'well, it worked for the cyclist guy with the cancer thing, so I'm sure it'll work for Christians for Inappropriate Touching'.

If I could ask... Do you like them for style? awareness? fondraising?

Original fundraising is few and far between. Has anyone seen anything new and/or interesting lately?

They are not stylish.

I wear them for awareness. Any day that I wear one I always get asked about it.
