I'm not sure whether this is news or not.

It's interesting - I don't really care one way or the other whether she's gay or straight. So it never occurred to me to wonder. Now that the article reminds me, I kind of remember seeing tabloid speculation about who the father of her children was.

quote:
Now that Foster has, reactions are mixed. On American website Gay.com, readers posted comments praising the actress for coming out, while others expressed anger that it was considered news.

“It is her life to live as she pleases. Why do so many gays worry about who is and who is not gay?” asked one reader

“Whether or not Jodie comes out is definitely her own decision, but she would provide an excellent positive role model to GLBT [gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender] people everywhere. I think that is why we get excited when someone comes out,” posted another.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to get to the point where this isn't news at all? But unfortunately, for actors in such a celebrity tabloid culture, I think it probably really affects what kind of roles you get, how you're treated, etc., when you come out of the closet. So I can see why she'd be private about it.

Foster has always been one of my favourite film stars - no one can play earnest and sincere as well as her, although Susan Sarandon comes close.

Can it actually be said that Jodie Foster came out as such? All that she did was fondly thank someone publicly. Considering how it was worded, she might as well have been thanking her agent. It's not as if she publicly identified this woman as her partner.

I've been in denial about Foster for years.

In my fantasy life, I've always wanted to believe I actually had a shot.
