Did anyone see the season finale of the Simpsons Sunday?

It was quite the anti-war statement and in the end they sang the Canadian national anthem. Now, over at alt.tv.simpsons they have their knicers in a knot asking "What the hell was the Canada crap?"

I'm surprised there hasn't been more backlash about that ending; maybe there would have been more if it aired a month or so ago.

Well, they're certainly not rabble content.

I haven't watched new episodes in, like, 5 years. Could somebody brief on what happened?

TV's longest-running and most fearless sitcom signed off for another season Sunday with a jaw-dropping finale.

In the first of a double-episode ender, best friends Bart and Milhouse ended up battling on a baseball field where the boys have gathered to sing the national anthem. To stop the fisticuffs spilling into the stands, they all decide to sing a "peace anthem," not the stirring war chant that is the U.S.'s Star Spangled Banner.

O Canada was sung, and -- naturally -- all fighting stopped.

"Well Bart, we've learned that war is not the answer," said Milhouse.

"Except to all of America's problems," said Bart.

the rest.

That's not quite right. (Gee, a Toronto Sun columnist gets the facts wrong? What a shocker!)

Bart and Milhouse were in rival youth groups. Both groups competed for the right to sing the national anthem (and I think be batboys) at a baseball game.

Milhouse's group won but Bart caused them to get there late. In the meantime, Bart's group dressed up as the members of Milhouse's group and then changed the words of the American anthem to insult the spectators.

When Milhouse's group showed up, they started fighting and the spectators started a riot. The captain character and Apu were the ones who started singing Oh Canada.

Sounds like it was a good Simpsons episode, I missed it, sure I'll catch a rerun.

That's one helluva interesting thread, in a scary what-are-they-freebasing sort of way. At least there are a couple of decent folks... I really like Mark Kuznicki's replies.
