censors censored

This is absolutely HUGE. Ontario is notorious for setting the vile prudish standards for the rest of the country. This will seriously hobble them I hope and put the whole Hollycoddling ratings apparatus under the public microscope. Or maybe it won't? Too excited to penetrate some of the legal gibber! But here's some meat:

quote:
“The provisions of the Theatres Act and the related regulations that require the mandatory submission of films and videos to the board for its approval prior to their distribution and exhibition infringe on the fundamental freedom of expression guaranteed by ... the Charter,” Judge Juriansz ruled.

Those regulations “have not been demonstrably justified as a reasonable limit in a free and democratic society,” he wrote.

Judge Juriansz declared several sections of the Theatres Act that deal with censorship to be of no force. He suspended the declaration invalidating parts of the act for one year to give the government time to rework the legislation.
