C'mon, I know you all watched "Celeb Boxing" last night. It's like a train wreck, yes?

Let's open up the floor for some analysis. Harmless fun or sign of the apocolypse?

Since I didn't even know it was on last night, and don't really know what yer talkin' about, I'd chaulk it up to harmless fun.

I didn't know it was on, don't have the channel and wouldn't have watched if I did.

The only two names I recognize off the list are Darva Conger and Joey Buttafuoco.

Holy crap. Chill out, people.

Mediaboy: Why respond to a thread if you don't know what it is about?

I was flipping channels when I came across celebrity boxing. I stopped long enough to witness a bout between the guy who played Horseshak(sp?) in Welcome Back Kotter and some guy who played a similar role in a similar show.

I must admit, for that bout, I was mesmerised. Horshak took a beating fighting a guy much younger, taller, and heavier and a trained fighter, to boot.

Given that the program his tasteless, violent, and involves celebrities, I predict it will be a ratings topper.

I first read this as "American culture," and was about to say "hey, what about the New Yorker," etc.

To me the interesting thing about American pop culture isn't that it's all schlock like this -- though lots of it is -- but that pretty much anything can happen. And probably will, given enough time.

Or as someone said, "just as you think you've gotten cynical enough, they move the goalposts on you."

Conger WON!? Against a former Olympian. Wow. And I was hoping that other woman would kick Buttofuoco's butt. Not because I have anything against him, but just because it would have been kind of neat for a woman to take on a huge guy like that and win.

Oh well. If I had been channel surfing, I probably would have landed on it and lit. But I pretty much never channel surf or even watch much television these days, so maybe it's all for the best.

How can you even suggest that [shudder] Saved by the Bell [/shudder] is even remotely similar to Welcome Back Kotter! I'm shocked and appalled!

Sorry vickyinottawa. I didn't mean to shock you. The appalled, however, was entirely intentional.
