I remember when i was a kid i loved the movie The Goonies. But there was always something that confused me about it. In one scene towards the end, a reporter asks "What was the scariest moment?" to which one of the Goonies answers "The octopus was really scary". But there WAS no octopus!

I remember hearing a rumour back then that there was a scene where they all confront an octopus. The rumour says that they decided to edit that part out after the film had been released in Theatres, but that they never bothered editing out the reference which came later.

Another clue though is that The Goonies computer game, which i had on my old Apple IIC, has a level where you have to dodge an octopus. Every other level is directly lifted from a scene in the movie.

Has anyone here seen the fabled Octopus scene, either in the theatres or else on some DVD release? Has anyone heard of this? Does the scene really exist? Or was it just the active imagination and the overly exagerating interviewee who made it up? Would One-Eyed Willy really use an octopus to protect his treasure? And what about the computer game? These are the questions that plague me when i try to sleep.

While swimming to the Spanish boat, the group encounters an octopus. The octopus is driven away when Data throws his radio into its mouth. The octopus is mentioned to the reporters in the scene on the beach in the finished film, even though the scene was cut.

Wow. Thank you. Do you know where one could see this scene?
