I hadn't heard of him, but the issues behind it are so sad

Anyone seen his films?

i've seen them....my x-boyf had a thing for extra long asian art films w. subtitles...

Farewell my Concubine was something like 4 hours in length....and call me uncultured swine, but it was 4 hours too long IMHO....if you like long drawn out love stories and chinese opera however, it may be the movie for you....the x loved it....

the costumes were good...some interesting historical/cultural stuff....overall though, incredibly slow moving...I have a hard time staring at the tv for that long....

I thought Farewell My Concubine was a minor masterpiece. Very moving. Very strange. But I like the long strange epic movies. 1900. Heaven's Gate. Mountains of the Moon.

Sad to hear of his demise. He was touching in that film.
