I just saw Mean Girls, and it was so funny! I just loved it. It's a very intelligent teen girl movie inspired by the very well-known book on teenage girl sociology, Queen Bees and Wannabees by Rosalind Weisman.

It's a little bit surreal, kind of a cross between Heathers and Clueless - like Bring It On except directed by John Waters. Anybody else see it? It's a new DVD release, I think it did well in theatres.

Oh, I'd like to see that. I've seen the trailer once or twice. If it comes to the little revue theatre around the corner from me, I'll see it.

My daughter saw it and liked it. So take that for what it's worth. Interesting that it had a PG-13 rating, while The Good Girl, which she also saw, had an R rating. Just shows you you can't judge a book by its cover.

"Mean Girls" was pretty good. Lohan kinda surprised me by showing some acting ability.

Another movie I saw recently that surprised me was "The Girl Next Door". I was anticipating some kind of brainless "American Pie"-esque teen sex romp (and there were elements of that) but "Girl..." had a lot more depth and heart than I expected. Plus, Timothy Oliphant is awesome in it.

I haven't seen it, but probably would if it was on cable. But when I was in LA I read an interesting article on the marketing poster for it. The poster has Lohan in jeans in the foreground, and the three mean girls in skirts and heels in the background. The length of the girl's skirts was photoshopped according to what area they were marketed in. More conservative areas got just above the knee, places like LA and New York got micro-minis.

Ooh, I'll have to check. There's a big ad for it in the Eatons Centre. I seem to recall the skirts being rather short, but I'll have to examine it closely just to be totally sure. Have to be sure.

I really liked this movie. I found the jokes to be snappy, which is rare in teen flicks. It seemed more true to life than either Clueless or Heathers. But maybe that's because it was largely filmed in and around TO.

Saw this movie.
At first I was sorry my partner rented it.

Now. Wow. A movie smarter than the PR people were willing to admit.

I was really, really enchanted by the two main stars.

(Lindsay Lohan's breasts)

Nahhh it was a cute movie. It meant well. It was pretty funny. I liked it.

More Clueless than Heathers, methinks - it lacked that sophomoric mysanthropy that so distinguished the latter.
