Sinter klaas arrives by boat from spain on dec 5.
Yeah, it is neat to be greeted by Sinter Klaas and Zwarte Piet handing out sweets and little presents. Little gift giving. Not the crazy splurge that the other santa has.
It is supposed to be started by a nobelman who became a bishop and arrived from spain with his moorish helper giving away his possessions. (Spain owned the netherlands at one stage).
There are a few other santa like characers in europe too. One in italy has a good and a BAD helper. Or maybe a helper who deals with bad kids?
Check out sinter Klaas on the web and if any of you want to dress up tomorrow, the 5th is the main day.
