Well, how nice for her.

I do wonder who sent her money. Clearly, a lot of people - but I really wonder: couldn't they think of anyone who needed it more? Like, say, the tens of millions of American people who make less money than Karyn does, even with her "pay cut"?

I'm amused. In other threads, many babblers make like panhandling is an honourable and sainted occupation, and that it's nobody's business what the panhandler spends his or her money on. In fact, even when some people argued that the Shaky Lady misrepresents herself and makes a whole bunch of money doing it, people were outraged at the suggestion, and some even went as far as to say that if there ARE panhandlers who make really good money at it, and are able to buy all sorts of things that I certainly wouldn't have been able to buy while working a real job when I first went to Toronto, well, that's okay because they're working hard for the money.

This woman made a website that she worked on every day, one that was written in a humourous way, humourous enough to entertain people enough that they sent money to her in small bits. How is that worse than paying for cable every month in order to be entertained by dumb shows like Sex in the City? She also made money by selling a bunch of her stuff on e-bay.

If people had started dontsaveshakylady.com websites, babblers would be outraged. And at least Karyn doesn't lie about her situation in order to beg for the money SHE gets.

As an aside, I found Don't save Karyn.com's spending tally to be really funny.

I may not say that panhandling is "honourable and sainted", but given current economic conditions, I'm surprised there aren't more panhandlers out there.

It is nobody's business what the panhanlder spends his or her money on. If I give away 2 bucks, that's money I've transferred from my wallet to a panhandler's hat or whatever. What they do with the money at that point is not under my control. I am not their banker, having loaned them out this precious money.

I have absolutely bupkiss to do with the money after that.

If you, Michelle, give me, say, $200, gratis, no strings attached, whatever, why would you then complain if I put the money onto my Hydro bill instead of my cable bill?

Okay, so you have no problem with what Karyn is doing then, right?

Personally, I wouldn't give her money, and I do kind of wonder about those people who do. But I also question people who play the slots or buy lottery tickets every day, so...meh.

Certainly, this is no more a waste of money on the undeserving than, say, smoking.

Well, if she's voluntarily soliciting contributions from people, so what? It'd be a whole different ball game if she was going out and shaking down people with a gun or bringing some Mafia goons to corner people in alleys.

People buy the stupidest things anyway, like $200 Nike shoes that wear out in a year, so if they want to give their dough to Karyn that's not my problem.
