The Knicks' Stephon Marbury launches a shoe that he himself wears on the court. The price? $15.

I remember Hakim Olajuwan (Houston Rockets' centre) launched a low-cost shoe about a decade ago. His reason was that he didn't want to endorse a product that would contribute to youth violence.

Marbury claims the shoe is priced in a way that kids can raise the funds themselves to buy the shoe.

Is this just marketing hype? And still no different from the rest of the problematic, consumerist, economic model?
