The Golden Globe nominations just came out and I noticed that "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" was nominated as Best Picture - Comedy or Musical with Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet being nominated as best actor or best actress in a comedy or musical. Frankly, when I wathced this magnificent movie I thought it was more of a drama with some funny moments. Similarily, the Ray Charles biopic was nominated in the comedy/musical category along with Jamie Foxx for Best Actor; I haven't seen this yet but all descriptions lead me to believe this is a dramatic look at Charles life more than a musical (like Chicago or Moulin Rouge).

Jamie Foxx had 3 nominations himself (best actor, supporting actor, best TV movie actor)

Yeah, Eternal Sunshine is a tough call, I could see justification for putting it in either category. Well, I'm just glad is was nominated somewhere!

Ray isn't a conventional musical, and it certainly is dramatic, but there is a lot of music in it, and it's certainly a vital part of the film. So I can see why they made the decision.
