But to no avail!

Details On Michael Moore’s New Film

quote:
Prior to the event I was told in confidence that Mel Gibson's Icon Productions had to drop the project due to the White House calling Mel. Icon had announced the project and as it obviously is at odds with Mel's politics, Max got Mad and the rights became available again. Enter Wild Bunch. Miramax are rumoured to have the US but even that seems publicly unconfirmed as of today.

Someone somewhere will probably haul out Tipper Gore as the boogeyman in response to the notion that the US Government attempted to dictate to a film company what they could or could not do.

I'm pretty sure that Dick Cheney's wife was also in the PMRC. Tipper Gore was just the most public face of that pro-censorhip group.

Susan Baker (wife of former Sec. of State James Baker) co-founded the PMRC with Tipper Gore, did she not?

Anyone see the Hitler film last night? The exchange between Adolf and Hindenberg after the Reichstag fire when Hitler proposed the suspension of civil liberties was obviously meant to allude to 911 and the Patriot Act (viz the producer's statement a month or so ago about the relevence of the film given the US march to war, comments that got him fired). Hitler said we live in dangerous times evident by the destruction of a national monument and we need to temporarily infringe on liberty in order to preserve democracy...

I only got to watch the first half hour of the Hitler movie, unfortunately. I was at a friend's place and she finds she can't watch movies like that without becoming depressed, so we skipped the rest. I would have liked to see the whole thing. The first part was rather melodramatic but engaging.
