I suppose DVDA, Trey Parker's and Matt Stone's rock band sets a remarkable standard for obscene band naming.

Is that a real band? I mean, do they have songs on broadcast radio or on CDs sold in music stores? Or is it just over the Internet?

And that sexual activity they call themselves... WOW! That's gotta hurt!

They have songs credited to them on the soundtracks for all Trey Parker's and Matt Stone's work, but no separate CDs that are *just* DVDA releases. I don't know if their songs have gotten any radio play.

Is that actually true now? I'm out of touch. It wasn't always the case. For instance, DOOM was one of the classic grindcore bands back in my day, and they had neither a particularly offensive name nor offensive lyrics. Well, I suppose some might take issue with a song title like Police Bastard, but the sum total of lyrics to Means to an End were "Let's all be friends/Means to an end." Not particularly deep, one has to admit, but a far cry from AC's schtick. There was a host of other anarchist grindcore bands in the same vein, e.g., Electrohippies, Extreme Noise Terror.

There are still a LOT of grind core bands that don't focus on the black humour/offense aspect of it. But it's really grown, from what I see. Especially with more and more death/gore core.

How about the Canuck group "The Battered Wives"?

Their first record is made of cool red vinyl; on their second record, (called Cigarettes), they are simply "The Wives."

I have both records. I played the first one bazillions of times, but I don't think I played the second more than once.

The Abrasive Wheels
GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm)
The Pointed Sticks
Thundermug

The above would make one seriously kick-ass death-themed mix tape. Think I might throw in some Death Cab For Cutie while I'm at it

In a different category, I've got to give the band Piledriver credit for the most titular and lyrical obscenity in a single album of which I am aware, with Metal Inquisition from 1985:

1. Metal Inquisition
2. Sex With Satan
3. Sodomize The Dead
4. Witch Hunt
5. Pile Driver
6. Human Sacrifice
7. Alien Rape

The album itself is absolutely hilarious. It's beyond expression. If you are a fan of metal with a sense of humour and you have yet to experience this legendary band, it demands to be heard.

Severed Heads
Christian Death
Death in June
Sucking Chest Wound
My Dying Bride

That's about as far as I'm getting this early in the morning. *yawn*
