I'm up this late because I was riveted to Prime Suspect 5, of which I rented a DVD. I loved Prime Suspect 6, and this one did not disappoint. Hard-hitting, willing to give us lots of sour notes. Helen Mirren is a wonderful, wonderful actress. I'll rent Prime Suspect 4 next week.

I hear you. I love all the Prime Suspects, but particularly six (which I'd rank as high as #2 or even #1 in order of excellence).

The acting was superb in six, and I thought the Special Ops sequence (don't want to put any spoilers in this post) was a huge cut above similar scenes in even most big-budget movies. Actually I thought all the production values were big-screen quality; the story was amazing, the cinematography and music were also great.

I love all the Prime Suspects I've seen too, although I don't know that I can recall them by number except for the first.

Great inspiration for a rental, though. Or maybe a cheap VHS find on eBay.

And Mirren is a great inspiration for all us old broads.

Did anyone see Helen Mirren in "Calendar Girls"?
Good flick, loved it.

So I watched Prime Suspect 2, which wasn't as good as 5 but still very good. Lots of racial tension in 2, which was very interesting. Apparently most people like the first three best, but I so far like the second. I'm presently in the middle of Prime Suspect 4, which is three separate stories.

For any (other) Helen Mirren fans out there, I recommend this fan site.

This is apparently the role model for Jane Tennison.

She has left the force and gone into TV producing herself.

Thorndike: "No hard feelings...certainly not on my part, anyway."

* Male brass guffaw. *

Tennison: *throws glass of wine at all of them and walks off.*

It didn't originally register why Tennison found it so offensive, but now i get it.

Mirren, one of my all-time favorites, always pleases. Her role in Prime Suspect has never been attemped in the movies, at least for women. On TV she is everybody's hero. Those that want to see "all" Miss Mirren should try to find the Michael Powell movie "Age of Consent"(1969)where her beauty is on display, front, and back. Not much of a movie, but worth a look. Her talent will keep her making very good movies for many more years.
