quote:
When fab began publishing 10 years ago, there really was only one gay scene. Today, I see one of fab’s roles as providing a place for many queer cultures to engage in a dialogue. It happens visually in something as simple as the photos on the Flash pages, covering events from leather balls to gay hip-hop parties, art shows to AsianXpress. It gets heated on our on-line forum at www.fabmagazine.com/forums . It happens in our more in-depth articles like this issue’s real estate feature by Wiley Norvell, which looks at the three queer neighbourhoods in Toronto from a sociological and cultural perspective. Most recently in these pages, we have focused on highlighting the voices of the two rapidly growing groups in the gay community: gay youth, maturing in an atmosphere that wants to censor the artistic expression of their sexuality, as well as out gay seniors. As young queers and golden gays grow in number like never before, the queer landscape will once again change colours and these new elements will influence the direction of queer culture.

From the Editor's Letter of fab magazine's 250th issue.

Though it's a bit self-serving, I think it's noteworthy when any alternative media survives/endures 10 years of publishing. That a gay magazine has managed not just to survive but to flourish seems downright amazing!

So, to celebrate, fab's having a helluva party! I hope any GTAers that are interested in gay media, gay culture, or just a gay old time, will join us tomorrow night!

Oh, she's added a period to the end of the link to the forums, that's why. But your link works, Hephaestion.

Congrats, Andrean. Hope you enjoy the celebration tomorrow night.

I fixed the link.

And thanks, Michelle, it should be a blast. You're welcome to attend, you know!

Edited to add: actually, I can't seem to fix the link...maybe 'cause the period is in the original quote? Anyway, if you click on it, just remove the period from the url.

Thanks! I don't think I can - I have to get ready to travel to Kingston for the weekend tomorrow night (laundry and stuff). But I hope you have a great time. Who's going to wear the sexy pants?

I fixed the URL.

Andy Barrie interviewed fab's Editor-In-Chief today on Metro Morning. There's a link to it on this page though for some reason I can't get it to play.
