You can watch the trailer at this site.

Some background: serenity is a science-fiction movie based on Joss Whedon's short-lived TV show Firefly. Firefly was a science-fiction/Western series set 500 years in the future. The show centered around the crew of the transport ship serenity. The crew of the ship is a motley collection of adventures, all of whom are running from the huge, bureaucratic and undoubtedly militaristic alliance.
The scripts were excellent, the characters finely drawn and the universe they inhabited incredibly complex and interesting.
Unfortunately for fans of the show, the Fox network canceled it after only 11 episodes leaving three unaired. Needless to say this upset Mr. Whedon, who, desperate to resurrect his creation, campaigned to have it transformed into a movie. Obviously he succeeded, but only after firefly fans bought a whole schwackload of firefly DVDs.
Now the be warned, this movie and the show which proceeded it, probably aren't for everybody. The captain of serenity could be described as a libertarian redneck, and Orson Scott card apparently loves the show(Ick!)
but all four of the show's female protagonists were/are very strong individuals and the Firefly universe is very multicultural.

I didn't think much of the show until a friend 'forced' me to watch a few episodes. I must admit I really enjoyed watching it and I've finally seen every episode.

It would be nice to see another season or two on TV. Any news about it being brought back to TV?

It won't be brought back to TV for at least five years. Universal plans to bankroll three movies first.

Firefly kicked ass. The writing was great, the characters are great, and the visuals are fascinatingly dirty, mechanical and appropriate. I was pretty bummed when it was cancelled, pretty dubious when a movie was announced (who bankrolls a movie based on a cancelled series) and elated to find that it really will happen.

Space aired them about 8 months ago, and they were awesome. I hope you got to see them.

Firefly was an amazing show, and the trailer looks so great!

I can't wait until September.
