Does anyone remember a topic that I think was in this section ages ago about groups of stranger going to a predetermined destination and at a certain time, do something that makes no sense at all and then leaving?

We talked about this a while ago and there was a certain name given to this type of act. An example that was said on the thread was that about 400 people met up at a fountain and at a certain time, threw yellow rubber ducks into the fountain and then left.

I know this is sort of clutching at straws but if I could just know the name for what this is called (planning on doing a project on it) I can take the rest from there.

Thanks!

I know every fad is supposed to get 15 minutes of fame, but I think "flashmobbing" only got about two and a half before it got the bum's rush.

We had a babbler back in the day who, given a choice between a clean limitless energy source and flashmobbing would have chosen flashmobbing. Apparently it was supposed to have empowered us all. Empowered us to go to the mall, hop around like frogs, then leave sheepishly, that is.

That sounds like most of the elections that I'm old enough to remember.

Cool, thanks a lot. Shame that it was just a fad that died out though, I was planning on using it for my documentary project.

And here I thought flash mobbing was so 2003.

quote:
Meghan Hein tried hard to keep a straight face as she dropped her pants on the subway platform before her ride on the silver bullet.

Sporting thigh-high stockings and a debonair smile, the 19-year-old ignored the dropped jaws and wide-eyed stares as she boarded a Bloor line train yesterday.

Hein was among some 75 semi-naked people who boarded the train together as part of a multi-city exercise by Improv Everywhere an online collective dedicated to causing public chaos and joy.

Some of the Toronto pranksters chose form-fitting polka dot briefs, others plaid boxers thongs were discouraged as they slipped, deadpan, among startled riders.

"Where are their pants?" asked a middle-aged rider, Anab Ali, who seemed slightly disturbed by all the half-naked men and women planting their bottoms on seats around her.
