Just out of curiosity, how much is the Ontario Arts Council spending on bringing Wrestlemania to Toronto? Though I am wrong in doing so, I can see that the Skydome will get some of the money generated by this event as well as the concessions outside, TTC, Bars and Restaurants, taxis, as well as those business and attractions that are going to get a chunk of the cash from those who come to see it.

How much has the Ontario Arts Council got, more to the point. And then there's that evergreen question, Who sits on the Ontario Arts Council? Try Hal Jackman and Linda Frum, for starters. (Caution: I may be a touch out of date there.)

It's alright to say "I don't know." you know.
But more to the point, if bringing it here also brings the money here then what is the problem with it?

Yeah, those beefy dancers, writers and painters don't really need the dough. Everyone knows they don't generate anything useful, anyway. And think of the poor little wrestlers, for goodness' sake.

Here's the OAC Website. It includes an audited financial statement for 1999/2000.

Skdadl, you are a bit out of date.
John Brotman is executive director;
Julia Foster is chair of the Ontario Arts Council;
Murray Frum is chair of the Ontario Arts Council Foundation.

The Ontario Arts Council is supporting Wrestlemania?

At long last, Tom Lehrer is right. Satire is dead.

At least wrestling fans booed Mike Harris at the public event for Wrestlemania today, which is rather surprising and encouraging.

'lance, I think skdadl's indicating that the Harris government seems to have time, energy and money for Wrestlemania, while the OAC's ability to support artists erodes with each passing year.

Here's the Post's take on the announcement.

Thanks, although Slick Willy's comments added to my confusion.

I'm prepared to believe just about anything, in these nefarious times we live in.

I had to go through the news clippings myself, and check the provincial government's announcement, before I dared to answer your question. Certainly wasn't an impossibility in my books, either.
