An idea for a new cultural resistance project, to be done as street theatre, comic books, video, or whatever format would support it:

Take the 1940's character, Nelvana of the Northern Lights:

http://www.skypoint.com/members/schutz19/nelvana.htm

And bring her back to fight those who threaten Canada today...the Tories and the Yanks!
(well, except for those Yanks who post on Babble, of course...)

Has anybody thought of this before?

Wow Ken... you are my superhero...I thought all of Babble stereotyped American's. Even those of us who agree with most of the opinions and attitudes of other Babblers!! I may come out of hiding now. I agree that we all need a superhero. **Even one that is resurrected**.

And, you could even do an international episode in which Nelvana joins forces with the Mexican underground comic book character Superbarrio.

That's an unbelieveably cool link, shanty.

My favorite superhero there so far was Sweden's The Masked Hippie, who wears a red costume with a hammer-and-sickle on it and whose superpowers include "redistribution of resources".

A lot of these superheroes have progressive roots.

We could put them together in an organization:

Maybe we could call it the Global Independent Revolution League!

(Motto: "You Go, G.I.R.L.!")

That's a great idea. I think Canadians would appreciate reviving a bit of national pride. I notice they mention "Captain Canuck." I think he must have been beaten up and robbed by Captain Capitalism sometime ago. LTJeezus pointed that site out a while back, and I did laff.

You're right, dammit. Although maybe we could bring her into this as well.

(But if it hadn't been and we'd been able to find a super hero whose name began with "Uncle", he could've been "The Uncle from G.I.R.L.")

Nelvana could have joint adventures with her francophone counterpart, Fleur De Lys:
