Moses Znaimer has left the building. He who spawned City TV which, in turn, spawned MuchMusic, Bravo, Space, Book TV, and two dozen local tv stations many called "the New" this or that has been relieved of his position at the ChumCity empire:

Life after Moses

quote:
Moses Znaimer officially relinquished his various roles at CHUM Ltd. on Friday from an undisclosed location, outside of town bringing to a close speculation about his future with the company he helped build from a small regional broadcaster to a burgeoning, innovative national network with an international profile.

He'll continue to be associated with CHUM as director, chairman and executive producer of Learning Skills Television and The Learning Annex in Alberta, obscure properties he and CHUM jointly own.

"We had been discussing change for about two years," said Jay Switzer, CHUM's recently anointed CEO. "It's not only what we wanted, but it's what he wanted to do. He's been doing this for 32 years. Everybody changes."

Nonetheless, it's a curious resolution to a saga that began with Znaimer's abrupt departure in January, officially for a sabbatical. That exit was met with the furor that has, for decades, accompanied most of Znaimer's moves. Speculation as to his plans, even the circumstances of his departure he was falsely rumoured to have left the building under police escort swirled for weeks afterwards.

Since then, it's been curiously peaceful on Queen St. Oh, business continues as usual artists cycle in and out of the MuchMusic environment, CityPulse news anchors go about their obligatory on-camera meanders through the newsroom but at the corporate level, things are done ever so quietly now.

Early last month, a shuffle of CHUM's top level of management by Switzer was delivered with uncharacteristic restraint and met with the same by a media that has, for more than 25 years, hungrily consumed every scrap of information coming from the house that Moses built.
