Satellite radio comes to Canada.

Looks like all three of the applications were approved.

I'm particularly interested in the CBC/Standard/Sirius service, for a few reasons: CBC Radio Three (web-only until now) will actually be a channel, it'll mean that I can finally listen to La Première Chaîne once in a while (I can't now, because I live in a pocket of severe AM interference) and it also offers services like NPR and the Beeb. And an LGBT news/talk channel, too! (Woohoo!)

On my current budget, though, I'm not entirely sold on having to pay a monthly fee, though I am fed up enough with conventional radio that it's sorely tempting anyway. And if my financial situation ever improves, I think I'll go for it for sure.

Whadday'all think?

I'm too cheap to pay for cable TV; ditto for radio subscriptions.
