Looking at political histories on CBC website here's my take on realistic NDP hopes in the Maritimes:

  • Newfoundland & Labrador = 0 of 7
  • PEI = 0 of 4
  • Nova Scotia = 4 of 11 Peter Mancini, Alexa McDonough, Peter Stoffer, John Hugh Edwards
  • New Brunswick = 1 of 10 Yvon Godin

5 seats total out of 32 (or roughly 16%)

Do Maritimer babblers concur? Anyone?

I think the most we can hope for in NS is three seats. Neither Cape Breton seat or Halifax West are reasonable expectations unless there is a massive Liberal collapse...and I'm willing to consider anything in such volatile times.

But as it stands, we'd be lucky to win back Dartmouth-CH and if we did, it would by tiny margin. Alexa and Peter Stoffer are safe, neither facing strong opponents from the Liberals or CPC. The most likely outcome for NS is for all incumbents to be re-elected. Not terribly exciting, I know.

Its not overly likely but I have been impressed by David Hackett here in Moncton--Riverview--Dieppe.

Let's not forget Rodolphe Martin in Restigouche-Madawaska who won 30% of the vote last time and is running again against a weak Liberal incumbent.

En parlant de Cape Breton, what's happening on the Sydney Tarponds issue right now, and why has there been dead silence (especially from the NDP) on this issue?
