Boy, Perle is a real master of diplomacy, is he not?

quote:
On Wednesday, he faced off on British television against Pentagon adviser Richard Perle, who accused the French of "breathtaking hypocrisy" for their stand against war. Mr. Myard shot back that Washington was the real expert at hypocrisy, pointing to its support of Saddam Hussein in his war with Iran and the fact that the United States remains the largest consumer of Iraq's oil.

Great response on the part of the French!

Here's a link to the BBC page regarding the debate mentioned in Michelle's post. There's a link on that page for a RealPlayer version of the debate. It runs about an hour and twenty minutes.

Perle seemed to have an aversion to the word "invasion". He preferred to think of it as "liberation". But it's about the weapons. But it's about terrorists. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Edited for a couple of things because the brain was too far ahead of the fingers.

The empire strikes back. First against the French:

Then against the Canadians:

Hehehe... all you can do about that stuff is laugh. They want us to react in a horrible way, but that wouldn't be "Canadian"

I just wonder, if I was being called names all the time, and false rumors were being spread around against us... would you really want to support the War against Iraq? I would say No, mainly because of the way they are acting.

quote:
"Something has gone terribly wrong in America," said Jacqueline Rose

This line (from the first article josh linked to) struck me hard, mostly because at my parent's house earlier today, my father said the same thing to me.

"D'you hear they're dumping French wine down the sewers down there? I saw it on the news... Something has gone terribly wrong in America, Anna."

I think he is scared, and that is something very uncharacteristic for dad.

The mind boggles at how quickly Bush has turned the world's sympathy and support in the face of the 911 attack into outright hostility. I'm starting to think that this administration will go down as one of the most astonishingly inept of all time. Budget deficits as far as the eye can see for the sake of tax relief for only the top percentile, Korea, Afghan reconstruction, Osama, pushing NATO to the brink of collapse and threatening the demise of the UN... I used to think these guys were just malicious oligarchs, but I'm starting to think they are also utterly clueless to boot.
