Immunology had an unexpected and decisive part in challenging the claims of 'Intelligent Design' proponents at the US trial on the teaching of evolution in public schools in Dover, Pennsylvania.

They are more concerned about protecting old ideas than curing diseases of the immune system. Big pharma is the missing link. Gourd knows we have enough post-nasal drip remedies and "me too" knock-offs as they rake in hundreds of billions of dollars in consumer purchases every year.

On a more serious note, this article is interesting because it quotes the trial judge's complete dismissal of the main ID proponent, Michael Behe:

quote:
In fact, on cross-examination, Professor Behe was questioned concerning his 1996 claim that science would never find an evolutionary explanation for the immune system. He was presented with fifty-eight peer-reviewed publications, nine books, and several immunology textbook chapters about the evolution of the immune system; however, he simply insisted that this was still not sufficient evidence of evolution, and that it was not 'good enough.'

We find that such evidence demonstrates that the ID argument is dependent upon setting a scientifically unreasonable burden of proof for the theory of evolution.

Nice article.

Yep, and someday a taxpayer-funded researcher will discover something else about the immune system. They're plugging away though, all those university academics and publically funded research scientists. Until then, there is no cure for AIDS or a host of deadly immune disorders. They still can't cure the common cold.

Carry on being serious. Somebody has to be, because big pharma isn't.
