1-2:30 pm, Penn뭩 Workshop: Writing to and through Conscious Change. How is writing relevant to sustainability? Penn offers several examples of sustaining poetry, short fiction and plays that inspire, awe and delight. How can we too articulate our convictions in ways that move the reader to action? Mayworks Festival: Workhorse: Spoken Word Showcase
Presented by: Mayworks Festival of Working People and the Arts

Boonaa Mohammed, Truth Is, Pip Skid, Emcee E and Rafeef Ziadah are five emerging and award winning poets who’ve got something to say!

Truth Is is an avid guerrilla poet taking poetry from street to street. Boonaa Mohammed has won numerous poetry slams around Toronto and was crowned the 2007 CBC Poetry Face-Off’s ‘Best New Artist’. Hailing from Winnipeg, Pip Skid’s brutally honest, blue-collar anthems have been embraced by the thousands of listeners who feel just like him, but have never had a voice to represent them until now. And all the way from Edmonton, Ian Nana Yaw Adu Budu Keteku, a.k.a Emcee E, is a man of many names and coincidentally many ambitions: musician, freestyler, grad student and possible future Prime Minster of Canada! Winner of the 2007 Mayworks Poetry Face-Off, third generation Palestinian refugee and spoken word artist/activist, Rafeef Ziadah returns for a not to be missed encore performance. They will be joined by students from local Toronto high schools who are participants in the Mayworks in the Schools Program. Performing original poems, come out to hear these dynamic poets for what promises to be some of the most enthralling performances of the festival!
