Anyone a "regular" at their local library?
I've just started going regularly again, and I'm reading a lot more as a result. I used to buy a lot more books, but now books are not really in the budget for me. For a while I just wasn't really reading any books at all, which is really unusual for me, but now that I've incorporated going to the library as a regular thing, as well as using the online catalogue and ordering books I'm interested in to my local branch, I'm really enjoying it.
The downside is that I just spent 20 minutes hunting my apartment for a book that I brought back a week and a half ago, and forgot that I'd brought back. Oh well.

IMO, public libraries are one of the best things ever. Didja know that Toronto Public Library is the busiest system in North America? My local is always busy: kids, street people snoozing, people engaged in what looks like very serious research of some kind. It has sections in Chinese and Portuguese. Lots of magazines, music CDs, videos. Also help with homework and storytime programs. From the look of its users it is a hive of integration for newcomers to Canada. Warms me heart every time I go.

My library has a couple great spaces for quiet reading. After the nearby highschool ends for the day it's great to see students come by & use the quiet carrels to do homework. As well, there are often - what appear to be - newly arrived canadians studying to brush up on all kinds of skills. When I look around & see everyone it keeps me motivated to read!
What I love about the online catalogue in the amalgamated GTA is that for free they will order in a book (or film, or cd) from ANY library.
Also, once it starts to heat up outside, remember - the library has A/C!
