As some of you may know, it is illegal to publicly broadcast or post any election results before all the polls have closed.

This will affect babble in that, between 8:30-11:30 p.m. Newfoundland, 8-11 p.m. Atlantic, 7-10 p.m. Eastern, 6-9 p.m. Central, 5-8 Mountain, and 4-7 Pacific, no election results will be allowed to be posted on babble.

We will be keeping the boards open. I've closed all new registrations until after the election.

We will be strictly enforcing the rule that no election results can be posted on babble during the blackout period.

If you're feeling rebellious and you want to buck the system, please do it elsewhere, on your own dime, not ours. Anyone posting election results on babble during the blackout period will be banned from the site.

It's a sucky rule and I don't like it, but we have to pick our battles and can't financially afford to grandstand on this one or push the envelope. So please, no wink-wink-nudge-nudge posts or hints or links to other sites publishing results (like this) or anything like that.

Much appreciated!

P.S. There is a thread here where you can discuss the merits of this law. Let's keep this thread for any questions or discussion about how this will affect babble.

Can I suggest it is clearer to say that no results may be posted prior to 7 pm PDT, which means:

7 Pacific
8 Mountain
9 Central
10 Eastern
11 Atlantic
11:30 Newfoundland.

(I know you said that, but I hope this makes it easier to refer to.)

Corrected.

Actually, it would be clearer to say:

7 Pacific (BC, YT)
8 Mountain (AB, NT, parts of NU)
9 Central (SK, MB, parts of ON, NU)
10 Eastern (parts of ON, QC, NU)
11 Atlantic (NB, NS, PE, parts of QC)
11:30 Newfoundland (as the name indicates)

They are going to start reporting on the election here in BC at 6:45 PST. Guess they figure not a lot of people are going to rush to the polls with 15 mins to go.

The broadcast may begin then, but the results will not be mentioned until 7. And that's PDT.

SK is not on Central Daylight Time, but Central Standard Time, which is the same as Mountain Daylight Time.

It will therefore be 8 p.m. local time in SK when the blackout ends.
