The NDP candidate for Nunavut has withdrawn from the federal election race, citing personal reasons.

Amanda Ford-Rogers, who works as the constituency assistant for a territorial MLA, was chosen to represent the party in early December.

Marie Dominique Sice, a spokesperson for the NDP, says Ford-Rogers remains supportive of the party.

She said the party plans to nominate a new candidate but it does not have a name at this point.

The Liberal incumbent, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, has won the seat in the last four elections.

Bill Riddell, who represented the party last year, will be the candidate again.

Can they do that now that the election is underway?

This story came out before the deadline for candidate submissions. The NDP has a candidate in Nunavut.

They need to throw out the liberal candidate. Infant mortality and child poverty in Canada's newest territory are a national disgrace.
