O.K. Ill go first....1) Doesnt self-government/autonomy kinds of cut you off from these "hand-outs" that are given to "funded" reserves I mean, as a Quebec FN member, we arent at the point where we can form a self-government (i think we can but....) If WE were a self-government, with a self-imposed, agreed upon finicial situation, we wouldnt be allowed to "fight" for these funds. You guys decided you wanted to be on your own, formed your own government, and decided to be a self-sufficient Nation. 2) The experience I have had with Northern FN is that its got a lot less factors that lead to violence to begin with. Alcohol and drugs are not as accesible as down here. Damn, If i lived up north, and a guy touched my sister, Id take the F@%)er fishing, and hed never be seen again. I dunno....family ties are closer the more remote you go. Anyways, thats me.....correct me if im an idiot......

The North needs alot of help.It suffer, at least in Nunavut from a suicide rate 9 times the Canadian average. Life expectancy is 10 years less. It leads the nation in tobacco use, STDs, HPV, sexual assaults, illiteracy, unemployment, incarceration rate, cost of living, small birth rate babies, lowest levels of education and many of its colonial masters will not even agree to give it any access to the royalties that the feds are pulling out of the ground such as diamonds, oil and gold. This was not the vision that people had when they worked so hard to convince the federal government to grant them this new Territory. Through chronic underfunding from a right wing goverment in Ottawa that cares nothing about northerners they have seen so many programs cancelled, funding capped, their land claim not honoured and a mean-spirited Prime Minister who only goes north to make photo op announcements about things HE is interested in and they do not happen to be on his list. We want to protect our sovereignty and our northwest passage but don't seem to give a darn about the Canadians that life up there. Ironic isn't it?
