Wherever it is, now you too can give your baby a leg up. quote: Celebrity is no longer a luxury in today's cutthroat world. As a concerned parent, you cannot afford to allow your precious child to enter adulthood without the vital benefits of fame. No one wants to be responsible for a child's mediocrity. What many parents forget, however, is that fame has many faces — and as time goes on, events prove that infamy (fame's notorious cousin) is often more powerful than plain, accomplishment-driven fame. To help parents harness their children's innate tendencies early, we are proud to present the "Baby Evil Genius" Collection of videos, DVDs and musical recordings.

quote: I -- as in Moi! -- am the true spirit of Medicine Hat!
I don't doubt it, skdadl -- but, not being an Evil GeniusTM, you lack the capacity to make that spirit realize itself everywhere (I'm sure there's some Hegelian terminology I'm forgetting, here). Just as I lack the capacity to bring the spirit of -- say -- Fairfield, Victoria to the rest of the world. Just as well in both cases, I'm sure. The world needs variety, and besides -- being the fruit of Evil GeniusTM -- both Brave New Worlds would undoubtedly prove to be dystopias of terrifying conformity and smiling-faced oppression. quote: Why is it called Medecine Hat?
According to this page: quote: The name "Medicine Hat" has its origins from Aboriginal legends about a battle long ago between the Blackfoot and the Cree Indian tribes in which a retreating "medicine man" (shaman) lost his headdress in the South Saskatchewan River.

In an attempt to be proper, the town fathers in 1910 started debating a new name for Medicine Hat. They had been visited a few years before by the (not-then) controversial British author Rudyard Kipling, who had already famously said of the town that it had "all Hell for a basement," referring to its reserves of natural gas. (Many straight lines offered free there ...)So the town worthies wrote to Rudyard and asked him what he thought about finding a better name than Medicine Hat. In his reply: quote: Kipling noted that Medicine Hat was a name full of "mystery and romance" and that it had a hint of "magic." "Believe me," he noted, "the very name is an asset, and as years go on, will become more and more of an asset. It has no duplicate in the world; it makes men ask questions... it has the qualities of uniqueness, individuality, assertion and power." He concluded that to change it would be to look ridiculous in the eyes of the world.
It is such a great place. I wish we had a Medicine Hat babbler. I am m'self so out of date. But my mum's granddad, an immigrant from Poland, was the first sheriff, about the time of this debate. Lemme look in the papers. Such fun it obviously was.
