Happy Hallowe'en, everyone!

Anyone dressing up today? I like to, but I haven't had time to put together a costume.

My favorite wisecrack on Hallowe'en - go up to someone who isn't dressed up and say, "Hey, great costume!" Yeah, it's juvenile and dumb, but hey. If you can't be juvenile on Hallowe'en, when can you be?

And a happy halloween to you too. I'm dressed up as sort of a dumpy middle age guy in a career that allows casual dress, and is slightly nearsighted.

So I'm out last night getting halloween candy, and took my kid with me (big mistake). He was tossing stuff in the cart and I wasn't really paying attention. #@**&^%!# over 100 bucks at the checkout! Anyway, the little munchkins in our nieghbiurhood should do pretty well at our place.

(edited to remove a couple of affronts to common English usage)

I'm using today as an excuse to wear shorts and sandals at work. When people ask what I am, I tell them that "I'm dressed as someone using Hallowe'en as an excuse to wear shorts and sandals at work."

I might be unemployed by the end of the day.

At my new job, most days are "dress down", which is nice. At least I wore an orange shirt!

There are some occupations that simply refuse to accept a looser dress code, even on Fridays, and it always vexed me. Back in the 1970s in Ottawa I tried to get away with a light turtleneck sweater with a suit, and found myself basically shunned the rest of the day. So I did it again and again!

Before the children start to arrive at the door, I put on one of those big frizzy multi-coloured clown wigs and one of my many multi-coloured gowns. I paint my face with big red cheeks and bright red lipstick.

I do this even though -- shhh -- I do not like Hallowe'en and I never did, even as a child. I was a six-year-old curmudgeon.

When I worked evening shifts at Shoppers Drug Mart, I got done up as a vampire every Halloween. The reaction of customers to having their prescriptions filled by a vampire was so positive, I commented to my boss that I should dress for all my shifts as a blood-sucking demon from beyond the grave.

I thought about dressing as a lawyer, but I didn't want to scare the children.

I wish I'd taken Stargazer up on her zombie lawyer costume idea. I mean for myself, not for my kid. But, as unionist says, I can't afford it. Although actually, instead of a suit, you could get yourself a robe and one of those little white tie doohickey things. But then people might think I was going for "zombie priest" and didn't make the collar right.

I've always wanted to dress up as a nun for Hallowe'en, but I never did.

I remember one Hallowe'en night in Winnipeg which was so unseasonably cold that you could see some lawyers walking around outside with their hands in their own pockets.

So we had a beautiful mild pleasant evening in Halifax. We had more than 150 kids before we shut down. There were some really good original costumes tonight -- I made sure to compliment the mothers who were, for sure, responsible.

The kids who said to me -- "hey, you look great!" -- got an extra treat. And why not?

Had a great time walking with my spouse and granddaughter. The kids stayed at home and did the door service this year.

Folks seem to really like my Grim Reaper get-up, too. I think the real axe does the trick.

And my spouse looks super in her spider woman costume--as in "super."

The granddaughter was in her favourite Cinderella dress. She wears it really well.

Now, what to do with all the crap candy we got, plus the huge surplus at home.

Shelters here we come.

Just what purpose does this day serve any way?

Okay, hands down the best costume I've seen all day was just now in the elevator at work. A male student was dressed in men's dress pants, a white collar shirt, a red cardigan, and running shoes, and he had that coloured Hallowe'en hairspray - grey, with hair combed neatly into a side part.

I looked at him and said, "Mr. Rogers?"

He was thrilled that I guessed right and gave me a high-five.

When you think about it, it's essentially the one day of the year you can actually get away with telling someone (s)he looks like an idiot!

Anyways, here are some "freaky" birthdates, if anyone's interested

Some 35 years ago, I wrote ad copy at Vickers & Benson in Montreal and I tried to see how far I could push the envelope. I flew in to Toronto for an ad shoot in full Clockwork Orange regalia. I would regularly ride my ageing Jawa to work wearing either a long pink robe or shorts shorts (and nothing else). When my very tolerant boss finally expressed concern about clients, I got a second-hand Pinkerton uniform from the Nearly New Shop and kept it hung behind my office door to slip into if the dreaded client came knocking.
Every day can be Halloween (if you can live with the cavities).

I once went to a Hallowe'en party dressed as a droog; with a bowler hat, fake eyelash, and long underwear with my jockstrap on the outside.

The costume was a veritable chick magnet.

Sigh. I guess Hallow e'en has truly become over commercialized when you don't recognize the duty to protect your virgin soul.

I went out to film a Hallowe'en play by Friendly Spike Theatre troop. It will be up in a few days.

I wandered around for a while dressed as "V" [for Vendetta] What else?

The adults didn't "get it".

--the teens in the neighbourhood cheered, waved, clapped and loved it.

I had theatrical retracting throwing knives. I was "stabbing" people when I realized that in THIS neighbourhood I'd likely get shot if a cop drove by
