Shouldn't we all get carbon credits, not just big industry?
In fact just people and not industry at all?
Say we all get the right to produce a couple of tonnes of CO2 each (or whatever the current average amount is in canada.
Then you use them up in your daily life.
I ride the bus, Good,
I make mortar, bad. I waste less mortar than some others, good.
And so on and so forth. (Maybe the mortar is too hard to judge.) Anyways I have some to sell at the end of the year. If I wnat to save the planet, I end up keeping them or keeping them until an industry person caves and gives more money for them. Result, more expensive product
ETC ETC
what do you think?
Also, credits for putting in solar thermal and soforth.

If you're interested in Carbon Credits you can always look here. You even get a framed certificate.

On a more serious note, there are companies out there that will sell carbon credits to individuals. For example Easy Being Green is an Aussie company that sells credits for a variety of purposes.

The problem that I see with a lot of this is the sellers of the credits are people that were never going to use them anyways - that is, it will make absolutely no difference to the seller's behaviour since he wasn't going to "do it anyways" but it lets the buyer feel virtuous.

Too late. I'm already on double-secret probation. There's actually some good money to be made on the carbon trading market in the next 18-24 months. I just wouldn't want to be left without a chair when the music stops.
