An agricultural seed bank will be built to safeguard against the threat of plant epidemics, climate change damage or total destruction from war or natural disasters, Norway's government says.

It sounds like a worthwhile enterprise. Ideally, of course, the seed bank should be "mirrored" elsewhere, to ensure that as many people as possible have access to it.

If I understood the article correctly, this new bank *is* the mirror.

The seed bank will include copies of plant material already stored at gene banks elsewhere in the world as a backup.

Looking closer, you're right, it "mirrors" stuff that's "hosted" elsewhere, but it sounds like it's more than just a mirror, they've made a sort of clearinghouse for stuff from several different sources.

Whatever the case, I hope others will follow Norway's example.
