i've been reading a lot of articles lately that seem point out devestation and extinction at an alarming rate, ie. near-extinction of large fish in oceans, rapidly declining coral reefs, this article by monbiot extinction?, and this article re: dying species in SE Asia SE Asian species dying at epic rate.

in the last article, the thing that struck me was the '100 years' number. it seems to be the magic number (or thereabouts) when scientists have been describing global warming effects, extinction rates etc. and what do i think when i read that number?

'man, am i glad i won't be around then'

and then a second later, i realize what a selfish statement this is and continue on hoping and doing.

i guess my question/thought is do you ever get this thought?

Never. Like Woody Allen, I don't want to achieve immortality by my actions - I want to achieve it by not dying. I'm never comforted at the thought of not being around a hundred years from now.
