God damn, Tommy P, funny tho' that is, as always -- would you believe that there is a report in this a.m.'s Grope about -- oh, help moi -- something like polyphenols and their role in countering ... guess what? I would make a link, except the Grope site seems to have become hostile to Young Ironsides, and until I can get Wingy or Slim to fix YI (or until I can get CSIS clearance, whichever comes first), I can't do Grope links. As I was reading the story in the print edition (we can still get the paper delivered, although I swear, there is a car parked outside our house every morning when I go to pick it up), I was thinking: a likely story. The study had big funding from a big pharmaceutical. I remember almost no details -- except this is such a coincidence, Tommy P. (You do believe in those, do you not, Tommy P.?)

Well, with all the preliminary research being reported as a miracle cure in the media all the time, the Onion story will always be topical. It just struck me as funny, particularly "jack shit" ending a typical news story sentence.
If card tricks can be termed "slight of hand", then much of humour might be termed "slight of brain". As the magician's hand leads your eye away from the action, so does a good humourist lead the brain to expect one thing, then present something unexpected. Much of "The Simpson's" humour revolves around leading you to expect outcome "A", then presenting you with something else. [ 05 June 2003: Message edited by: TommyPaineatWork ]
