Men need not apply.

"Scientists in Australia have found a way to fertilise eggs using genetic material from any cell in the body - and not just sperm.

The technique could potentially help infertile couples to have children.

Theoretically, it also could mean that lesbian couples could give birth to a baby girl without the need for a father. Women do not carry the genetic information required to make a boy."

Current estimates are that by 2050 you won't need either mothers or fathers - Huxley's test tube babies will be a fact (needing neither eggs or sperm, just existing cells, and being brought from cell to baby in an artificial womb). Won't even be clones ... the feeling is that genetic engineering will by then be providing designer babies.

You have to wonder just what we're setting ourselves up for ... mind you if some of the artificial intelligence people are right it might not matter so much, since we'll have computers more intelligent than ourselves to make the decisions anyway.

Luckily all these things will automatically be for the benefit of humanity

I noticed that the date on the article was in 2001 - I wonder what's become of this research since?

They probably locked the researchers up in the same cell with the inventors of the 200mpg carberetor, the light bulb that never burns out and the battery that never dies.

My mistake. I didn't notice the date on the page.
